The story of my bike

(*rpm's are in neutral)

I bought my bike on July 28 '97. The first 2 months it's top speed was about 55km/h, 10.000 rpm* and absolutely no power, that really sucked so my brother in law helped me to boost up the power. We replaced the original 7mm fuel/air intake shaft to a 16mm. Then we took the Cylinder-head of and because the head-gasket is build out of three separate layers of metal, we took 2 layers out and put only 1 back in, too give a higher compression in the cylinder. After all this it's top speed was about 65km/h, it had more power and 12.000 rpm's*. But a couple of days later when I was riding to school the police where stopping mopeds to see if they had to much power (THAT MAJOR SUCKED) they tested my bike and it had 0.58 KW and only 0.44KW allowed (SHIT!!), but the police officer only gave me a warning. A couple of months later I brought my cylinder, piston and cylinder-head to the local moped-shop, they tuned the cylinder and took a little layer of the cylinder-head. I also bought a new back tire I changed from a 8cm to a 9.5cm (looked much better) That was much better, about 70km/h, much, much more power and 13.000 rpm*. On my birthday I got a new carburetor, a 20mm Mikuni, so I changed from the 12mm to a 20mm New top speed: 75/80 km/h depending on the wind. and 14.000 rpm's* I kept my bike like this for a while. But on February 14th '98 I had an accident and broke my leg, my bike had some damage, scratched bodywork and the brakes were fucked.

I have been riding my bike now for a couple of weeks, it has been at the moped-repair man for a while. The cylinders bore has been enlarged, so now it is a 51cc. This has given me a lot more power, I also have a new exhaust, a Proma. It looks really good and has a pretty cool sound. I changed the head-gasket again, I took the 2 layers of to give the explosion in the cylinder a higher compression. My bike can now do about 80 KM/h but with a wind from the rear it will do 95+ KM/h.
I still have the original sprockets (13 - 47) because of this a I can accelerate very fast.

June 10th '98

I have been trying out some other exhaust, but that didn't help, the Proma gives best performance. I also have tried out some smaller jet's in the carburetor, I first had a 180, but I now have a 150, without any speed-loss,
but the fuel consumption went down a lot.

August 13th '98

I installed new signal light at the rear-end, they look much cooler than those stupid big ones, I will take a picture of them. I am also planning a major bike cleanup, the carb needs tuning, I have to install a alarm! and everything is very dirty, the sparkplug is fucked up to.

October 4th '98

I have got a new 6-speed close-ratio gear box, In Holland the NSR's have just got 4 gear's this one has been rebuild with 12 new sprockets inside.

October 19th '98

I've been having some major problems with BOTH of my gearboxes. The piston of my 50cc cylinder broke (don't ask) and fucked up the crankshaft, the bearings have to be replaced and a new piston and the cylinder has to be fixed.
Because of this I installed my old 4-speed gearbox and a 70cc Mallossi cylinder, but when I started it the engine started to rattle and so I opened it up and A PIECE OF FUCKING METAL in the crankshaft.
Both gearboxes are at the local moped-dealer for repairs I hope I have them back soon.....

November 7th '98

Finally my bike is fixed, I have got a new Big-end, Cylinder and piston. I also installed a sender/receiver on my bike to switch the alarm and the electronic restrictor on and off by remote control, very handy for the cops.
I have been spending this morning riding my bike, because I have to let the Cylinder and piston get used to each other this will take about 150km driving about 50 km/h.
After I have done that I can pull open the gas and I guess my new top speed will be 90 km/h.

April 7th '99

I've been doing a little of tuning on my bike, I've tried to test Ram-air, it really works if you [ut on an air-compressor. But no real road testing yet. I'm trying out some different carbs and jets. But it all doesn't really help. I think the problem lies in the cylinder, it's just a cheap 50cc imitation cylinder. In the Dutch 50cc races the NSR's do about 160 km/h but the have days of tuning on the cylinder.

June 23rd '99

I tuned my cylinder and the inlet-manifold, I enlarged and polished the inlet manifold, and enlarged the exhaust port and polished it too. I still have to tune the carburetor, because it doesn't start all to good. I also, repaired a hole in the bottom-fairing, with polyester.

August 20th '99

I'm having some trouble with my bike because the exhaust has got a crack in it right on the end of the expansion chamber, it can't be fixed so I need to buy a new one. The good part is that I don't have to pay it so I am going to buy an Arrow exhaust system.

It's been a (very long) while since I updated this section. I stopped riding my NSR somewhere in January 2000, I passed my 'real' motorcycle exam in December 1999 and my car exam in February 2000. Since then my bike has been in the garage, when I have some time I would like to start it up again and fix some things.
I now own a Cagiva Mito 125 since march 2000, it's a pretty cool bike. But it also in the garage with my NSR because the CDI and electronic valve controller are both broken and very expensive.

What I have changed on my bike:

  • Front signal lights, changed from original Honda (BIG) ones, to small one's that fit directly on the side.
  • Carburetor, Original 12mm to 20mm Mikuni.
  • A Turbo ignition plate inside the engine. For a bigger spark.
  • Changed the original spark-plug to a NGK B8ES.
  • Changed the Honda exhaust to a Proma. (very light and fast)
  • Took of the mirrors (they sucked)
  • Changed the back-tire. From a Pirelli MT 15 (8cm), to a Kenda 90/110 (9,5cm).
  • Changed rear signal lights to much smaller carbon-look one's
  • Changed original (Dutch) 4-speed gearbox to close ratio 6-speed gearbox.
  • New Charmo cylinder and piston FL 190,-
  • New Imitation Big-end
  • Tuned the cylinder
